The purpose of this program is to promote and contribute to the development and strengthening of the capacities of the IACUCs linked to institutions that carry out research using animals, in terms of their organization, operation, training, and design of strategies so that they are in optimal conditions for the fulfillment of their mission. Professional with different backgrounds will be able to attend this Program to receive the specific training required to participate in the evaluation of scientific procedures involving animals according to international standards.

A grant of 5000 euros is requested from the European College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ECLAM) and European Society of Laboratory Animal Veterinarians (ESLAV). Since 2016, ECLAM and ESLAV jointly organize a Summer School to support continuous education of laboratory animal veterinarians, especially aiming at colleagues from Eastern European countries and ECLAM residents who study to achieve the EBVS® European Veterinary Specialisation in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Laboratory animal veterinarians hold a pivotal role in inspiring a culture of care and promoting replacement, reduction and refinement in all establishments hence support of their CPD is crucial. The 2025 ESLAV-ECLAM Summer School will address: “Surgery and Experimental Techniques, Design and conduct of research programs & animal experiments”. The curriculum will include theoretical sessions and practical training on experimental design, surgical and non-surgical techniques, animal models, pre-clinical imaging and associated humane endpoints. The program will focus on implementation of the 3Rs at all stages of experimental design and implementation.
